How Drs. Born and Garcia Foster Diversity at Brown’s Orthopaedic Research Lab

Brown University’s Program in Biology Newsletter recently featured an article about diversity at Diane N. Weiss Center for Orthopaedic Trauma Research – the lab which University Orthopedics surgeon Christopher Born, MD, co-directs with Dioscaris Garcia PhD’12.

Dr. Born said he takes great pride in the inclusion that Dr. Garcia has fostered.

It’s especially important considering 92.3 percent of the physicians in orthopedics are male and 84.7 percent are white, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

“I credit Dio with developing, promoting, and maintaining a model work environment that is as diverse and collegial as you’ll ever find,” says Born, a trauma surgeon and the Intrepid Heroes Professor of Orthopedic Surgery.
