University Orthopedics’ Providers Helping Teach Latest in Pediatric and Adolescent Sports Medicine

Several providers from University Orthopedics will be taking part in a Continuing Medical Education course hosted by The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University

The event – targeted at athletic trainers, nurse practitioners, physicians, physician assistants, physical therapists, and physical therapy assistants – will provide current state-of-the-art sports medicine practice guidelines to help ensure the highest quality of care. Through presentations on various pediatric and adolescent sports medicine topics, course participants will gain increased comfort in initiating evaluation & treatment prior to referring to a specialist & appreciate the injury patterns that require urgent specialist referral.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
• Differentiate among various types of sports injuries and sports-related conditions
• Initiate workup and know the proper indications for higher-level imaging techniques in diagnosis
• Initiate appropriate non-operative treatment
• Describe the indications for referral to a specialty provider
