A Curved Reality: Art Exhibit to Shine Light on Scoliosis Warriors

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Scoliosis warriors from Rhode Island gathered recently for a photo shoot in Providence. Their photos will be featured in Back to Healing‘s upcoming art exhibit “A Curved Reality,” which celebrates the stories of those with scoliosis.

University Orthopedics is a proud sponsor of the exhibit, which will open on July 26, 2024, at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

University Orthopedics’ spine surgeon Dr. Diebo and the Brown University Division of Orthopaedics were instrumental in bringing the exhibit to Rhode Island.

Fellowship-trained in spine and scoliosis surgery, as well as both spine and orthopaedic research, Dr. Bassel Diebo treats all spine disorders and scoliosis conditions across adolescence and adulthood, including degenerative spinal conditions (stenosis and spondylolisthesis), and spinal curvatures such as scoliosis, kyphosis, and lordosis. His areas of focus are complex and revision spinal reconstruction, flatback syndrome, adolescent and adult scoliosis, Hip-Spine Syndrome, full-body three-dimensional alignment, and posture.

Dr. Diebo is considered a leading authority in spinal alignment and posture and one of the most published spine surgeons of his generation with more than 250 publications at the National Library of Medicine and upward of 1,000 podium presentations, books, and chapters under his name. Among multiple recognitions, Dr. Diebo was named one of ExpertScape’s Top World Experts in Lordosis, Kyphosis, and Scoliosis; the recipient of Brown University’s Lucas-Palumbo Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Spine Surgery; named one of Becker’s Spine Review’s “Ten Spine Surgeons Under 45 to Know” in 2022; and in 2020 he was listed among North American Spine Society’s “20 under 40.”
