University Orthopedics is proud to announce it is among 26 local companies recently selected to receive a workplace safety grant from Beacon Mutual.
As part of its 30th anniversary in Rhode Island, the insurance company is awarding a total of $78,000 in safety grants to 26 policyholders selected from a pool of more than 125 applicants.

University Orthopedics will use its $3,000 in grant money to purchase an Oakworks PF250 tiltable exam table. The table will be used during DME/casting services, decreasing the potential lower back and knee injuries for our staff and providing greater comfort care to patients.
Each application was reviewed by a committee of workers’ compensation safety experts based on the quality of each application and its potential to prevent workplace injuries. Beacon Mutual told Providence Business News that it initially intended to award $30,000 to 10 companies, but expanded the number after receiving so many well-thought-out applications.
“Our hope is that these grants will help our policyholders protect their employees and prevent more workplace injuries,” Beacon Mutual President and DEO Brian Spero told PBN.
