From war-torn Syria to Rhode Island: University Orthopedics’ newest surgeon transforms lives and spines

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I.  — University Orthopedics spine surgeon, Bassel Diebo, MD fled his war-torn country of Syria 12 years ago.

After taking refuge with a family in Indiana, he decided to pursue a career in spinal surgery and recently joined UOI’s Center for Spine Health.

He shared his story, and details of an emotional reunion, with Channel 10’s Barbara Morse.


About Dr. Diebo

Dr. Bassel Diebo treats all spine disorders and scoliosis conditions across adolescence and adulthood, including degenerative spinal conditions (stenosis and spondylolisthesis), and spinal curvatures such as scoliosis, kyphosis and lordosis. His areas of focus are complex and revision spinal reconstruction, flatback syndrome, adolescent and adult scoliosis, Hip-Spine Syndrome, full-body, three-dimensional alignment and posture.
