University Orthopedics Physicians Complete Advanced Trauma Life Support Training for Providence Bruins Coverage

Providing world-class care to elite athletes requires preparation long before the puck drops.

University Orthopedics physicians Dr. Drew Rogers, Dr. Michel Arcand, and Dr. Michael Belanger recently completed an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course as part of their responsibilities as team physicians for the Providence Bruins. The specialized training is required by both the National Hockey League (NHL) and the American Hockey League (AHL) for physicians providing game-day medical coverage.

The ATLS program equips physicians with the latest evidence-based protocols for rapidly assessing and managing traumatic injuries in high-pressure situations. From on-ice emergencies to other serious orthopedic injuries, the training ensures physicians are prepared to make critical decisions when every second counts.

A Commitment to Excellence in Sports Medicine

At University Orthopedics, continuing education is more than a professional obligation—it’s a reflection of our commitment to delivering the highest level of patient care.

By maintaining advanced certifications and staying current with evolving trauma care guidelines, our sports medicine physicians are ready to provide expert medical care for professional athletes competing at the highest levels.

Expert Care for Athletes—and Every Patient

While this specialized training supports the care of Providence Bruins players during games, the knowledge and skills gained extend far beyond the rink.

The same expertise in orthopedic trauma, injury assessment, and emergency care benefits patients of all ages and activity levels throughout Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. Whether treating professional athletes, weekend warriors, or individuals recovering from everyday injuries, University Orthopedics is committed to providing exceptional, evidence-based orthopedic care.

Excellence on the ice starts with excellence behind the bench—and that same dedication to excellence is reflected in every patient we serve.
