A New Joint May Be Answer to a Pain-Free New Year

As we head into the New Year and the coldest months of the year, those of you who suffer from arthritis, are probably dreading the joint pain the comes along with the winter weather.

“Cold weather can accelerate a patient’s journey towards total joint replacement. By the time patients reach us, most have already tried non-steroidal anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, braces, exercise, physical therapy, and even injections,” University Orthopedics’ Dr. Valentin Antoci told The Newport Daily News. “But these treatments can be ineffective, especially when the problem is severe osteoarthritis.”

Dr. Antoci, who is also the director of Newport Hospital’s Total Joint Program, recently discussed options for people who are resolving to be pain-free in 2021.
