Dr. Arnold-Peter Weiss, a hand surgeon at University Orthopedics, is revolutionizing medicine once again. He recently performed a first-of-its-kind wrist replacement surgery at University Orthopedics East Bay Surgery Center.
After several surgeries, Ronald Filkins still had pain in his wrist caused by a fall several years ago. Weiss determined Filkins was the perfect candidate for the “WristMotion Total Wrist Arthroplasty System,” a device he helped design with Anika Therapeutics, Inc.
The device, which moves on different planes, received FDA approval late last year. A few weeks ago, Filkins became the first person to undergo wrist replacement surgery with it.
Dr. Weiss and Filkins discussed the procedure with Channel 10’s Barbara Morse. Watch Now »
