With many ties to Ukraine, providers and staff at University Orthopedics have found different ways to help the war-torn country, not only by donating their time and money but also by gathering much-needed medical supplies.
From cleaning leaves from the gutters to putting up Christmas lights, ladders serve a very useful purpose. But when proper care isn't taken, they can also pose a serious risk. In fact, more than 100 people are killed and thousands more are hurt in ladder accidents.
Dr. Roman Hayda, chief of University Orthopedics' Division of Orthopedic Trauma, traveled to Haiti in September shortly after an earthquake and then a tropical storm hit the island nation. While there, he provided medical help to injured people. He recently described his experience.
